Pick the Right Tool

It’s important to use the right tool for the right job. I bet you can hang drywall using a stapler if you had to, but wouldn’t it be better to also have a saw, a hammer, and a screwdriver available to use? You may feel more comfortable using a particular tool more than others, but they all serve a unique purpose.

I have many tools at my house that don’t get used very often, but when the toilet needs to be replaced, or the drywall needs to be patched, I can go to the toolbox and pull out exactly what I need to do the job effectively.

That’s how it goes with our leadership tools too. Sure, you likely have your go-to motivational tools, your go-to communication style, and your go-to way for making decisions, but you don’t always have the luxury of doing it your preferred way.

Each person you work with is unique, so to improve your chances for success (and reduce your frustration), you should pull out the right tool for the job with them.
