Accepting feedback is just being coachable

Most people I talk to tell me that they dread feedback at work, especially when that feedback comes in the form of their annual review.  However, when asked about sports instead of work, those same people tell me that if their coach didn’t spend time focusing on their opportunities and weaknesses then they would be upset and confused (and wouldn’t improve their performance). I think this disconnect is fascinating.

How is it that we can DESIRE feedback in one area of our lives and DREAD it in the other - it has everything to do with your PERSPECTIVE.  I encourage you choose to think of feedback in the professional world as if it is the “practice” or “coaching” and your everyday interactions as the “test” or “grade” instead of the other way around.

Is the performance review your final grade or a focused practice session with your coach?  I'd love to hear your thoughts?
